our story
Geared Up Cycles was established in 2010 by Steve Groombridge. Having worked on, and with, bikes at various shops since leaving school, he was keen to deliver speedy and convenient servicing to the local cycling community. Initially starting out as a mobile set up, he soon realised that warm hands were a benefit for those fiddly gear adjusts, and in December 2013 opened the doors of our Ash Vale shop.
Thea, whose background is predominantly in customer service and bookkeeping initially started out ‘behind the scenes. Life events in 2018, and more so during the pandemic, forced a change of set up and she is very much now front of house and makes sure everything runs smoothly.
After 5 years in Ash Vale, we decided to move our store to Sutton Green Garden Centre, just off the A320 between Woking and Guildford. There is plenty of free, onsite parking and a great tea room!
We also now have our second store, a workshop on the Stag Hill Campus at the University of Surrey. This supports not only students and staff of the University, but the surrounding area including Surrey Sports Park and Surrey Research Park. Located in The Hideout, you can grab a coffee while we do a quick adjust.
With nearly 20 years of experience in the cycling industry, we aim to take the hassle out of maintaining your bike. We always strive to have short lead times, sometimes even same day slots are available. No weeks upon weeks of waiting here!
We offer new bikes from Merida, an ever increasing range of spare parts & accessories, complementing an extensive repair & service menu.
Our mechanics are all Cytech, or equivalent, qualified.
Also trained in DT Swiss wheel building, Fox & SRAM suspension servicing meaning most jobs can be done in house.
To help make life even easier for our customers, we also offer a collection and delivery service in the local area.
